Tools

Stuff I actually use.

The software, services, and AI I've accumulated while making things on the internet.

No rankings. No affiliate-link graveyard. Just things I've actually used and what I think you should know about them.

Build

Tools I use to actually make things.

  • Astro

currently my favorite way to make a website

    What I use it for
Most new websites I build. This site runs on it, and the Websites by Jeremy site is moving to it.
    Why I use it
I like that I can mostly write HTML and CSS until I actually need JavaScript.
    What I like
Fast, simple, flexible, and doesn't make a normal website feel like I'm building a React application.
    What I used before
WordPress, for about ten years. Astro is a big part of how I'm moving new projects off it.
    Cost / value
    Free and open source.

Robot coworkers

AI I actually work with.

  • ChatGPT

    has heard entirely too much

    What I use it for
A broad, long-running thinking partner: decisions, research, ideas, writing, business questions, technical problems, and planning. It also gave me accessibility advice for this site.

Hosting + infrastructure

Where the things I make actually live.

  • Cloudflare

    where basically everything ends up

    What I use it for
DNS, and hosting my newer Astro sites on Workers. This site and the new Websites by Jeremy site both deploy there. Some behind-the-scenes data lives in D1, and the new Websites by Jeremy site uses Turnstile and Stream.
    What I used before
For WordPress sites: GridPane managing a Hetzner server. Newer work is consolidating around Astro and Cloudflare instead of a traditional WordPress and VPS stack.

Legacy · phasing out

WordPress 2015-ish — 2026

We had a good ten years.

For roughly a decade, WordPress was my default. I built, hosted, maintained, secured, updated, fixed, and supported real client sites on it.

I don't hate it. It paid the bills, taught me a huge amount, and is a big part of how I got here. I still look after legacy client sites on it. It's just not the default for new builds anymore.

New work goes to Astro + Cloudflare
